    The Birudhas of Chola Kings and their meaning

As far as titles are concerned, each Chola king adopted various titles. Although this practice began in the history of the Cholas of the Sangam period, there are differences between them. The Cholas of the Sangam period did not have their titles or real names engraved on the coins they issued, except for symbols. 

The early and middle Cholas, compared to the Cholas of the Sangam period, adopted more titles. In particular, they adopted titles like "Parakesari" and "Rajakesari". These types of titles decreased during the Vengi Chalukya-Chola period.
1) Aditha Chola-Kothandaraman
2) Paranthakan I-Mathirai Kondan
3) Aditha Karikalan-Veera Pandyan Thalai Kondavan
4) Rajathiyan-The deva who died on an elephant
5) Uttama Chola-Mathuranthaka

Parakesari-Parakesari means one who has a lion for his enemies.

Rajakesari- Rajakesari is like a lion among kings.

The first Raja Rajan and his son Rajendranath I also had many titles.

Titles Of Raja Raja-I The Great

1) Sivapadha Segaran- One who worships the feet of Lord Shiva

2) Pandiya Kulasani- He is like Saturn to the Pandya clan.

3) Uyyakkondaan

4) Jeyankondaan- The victorious Thondai Mandalam was called "Jayangonda Chola Mandalam,

5) Shathriya Sigamani-  The best of the Kshatriya clan

6) Mumudi Cholan- The one with the Pandian, Chola and Chera crowns

7) Cholendrira simman- 

8) Chola  Marthaandan

9)  Ravi kula Manickam-He is like the jewel of the solar clan.

10) Jana Nadhan 

11) Nithavinodhan

12) Rajaasraayan

Titles Of Rajendra-I The Great

1) Gangai Konda Cholan- The one who captured the waters of the Ganges.

2)  Kadaram Konda Cholan- The one who conquered Kadaram

3) Mumudi Cholan-The one with the Pandian, Chola and Chera crowns

4) Azhagiya Cholan- Beautiful King

5) Pandidha Cholan- Excellent in education

6) yutha Malla

7) Raja Rajendra
 
Each Chola king inscribed his titles in the inscriptions. He added his titles to the names of his officers. Similarly, the words "Ezhundharuliya" and "Thunjiya" appear in the Chola inscriptions, which mean "dead".

1)  பொன் மாளிகை துஞ்சிய தேவர்- who died in Palace Sundara Chola assumed this title

2)  மேற்கே எழுந்து அருளின தேவர்- who died in West Chola king Kandraththiya assumed this title

3)  யானை மேல் துஞ்சிய தேவர்-  who died on elephant

Rajathirajan I was called the "Chola of the Mountainous Country". Kulothunga I was called the "Chola who avoided customs duties" and Kulothunga III was called the "Lord of the World" and the "Lord of the World".

Conclusion
It can be seen from their inscriptions that the Chola kings often showed great interest in adopting various titles and thereby glorifying themselves.
